BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's lacrosse team was named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Regular Season Champions, after defeating Nichols on Tuesday evening, 20-2, on Bayside Field.
Julia Kelley had 13 points, setting the program record for points in a single-season, previously set by Kaelen Hogan of 115 points in 2018.
Allie Shamberger had three points, alongside
Karli Chapin and
Mia Pantano.
Defensively
Kate Shultz had four caused turnovers with five ground balls to lead the defense, while
Miranda Hayes earned 10 draw controls.
The Hawks opened the game with 14 straight goals to open the contest, before Kristen Ruby added a goal for the Bison. In the second half, Kelley reset the record book again with a goal by
Ryleigh Grant with 12:01 remaining, that Kelley dished the assist to earn point 116.
The Hawks closed out the game to lead by as many as 19, before a goal by Hadley Houghton scored with 3:25 remaining.
Roger Williams (8-7, 7-0 CCC) locked up the regular-season championship for the CCC and will close out the regular season on Saturday, Apr. 20 before finding out the bracket for the CCC Tournament.
