BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University men's tennis team fell to the Bison of Nichols on Wednesday afternoon, 9-0, on the RWU Tennis Courts, giving the Hawks their first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) loss of the season.
In doubles action, the Bison picked up the win at No. 1 doubles with the Leon Zeis and Kerem Subasi earning an 8-4 win over
Ryan Carroll (Holden, Mass.) and
Will Hurlbut (Marion, Mass.). The Hawks dropped their No. 3 doubles match 8-6, before falling in No. 2 doubles with
Camden Poitras and
Konnor Collins (Broken Arrow, Okla.) pushing Caio Dieckmann and Richard Hartmann to a tiebreaker, eventually falling, 8 (10)-7 (8).
The Bison clinched the match with wins at No. 6 singles followed by a win at No. 3 singles. The Hawks then saw Collins fall 6-3, 6-3, before Carroll dropped his match to Zeis 6-4, 6-2.
Johnny Baldyga (Simsbury, Conn.) pushed his No. 2 singles match to a third set, falling 6-0, 4-6, 10-6, before Hurlbut dropped his match, falling in a tiebreaker in both sets.
Roger Williams (12-4, 5-1 CCC) will close out the regular season on Saturday, Apr. 20 at Wentworth playing at The Rivers School in Weston, Mass.
