BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University women's lacrosse team secured a resounding 26-2 victory over Gordon College on Saturday, downing the Fighting Scots in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Senior Day on Bayside Field.
Prior to the start of the game the Hawks celebrated their three seniors, Julia Kelley (Foxborough, Mass.), Kate Shultz (Portsmouth, N.H.), and Karli Chapin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) in a pregame ceremony.
Kelley led the way with 17 points in the contest, setting a new program record, with seven goals and 10 assists. Kelley also surpassed the 100-career goal mark. Emma Terino (East Meadow, N.Y.) added six points with a pair of goals and four assists, while Chapin added two goals and three assists. On the defensive end, Shultz tied the program record with seven caused turnovers, while picking up seven ground balls.
Roger Williams also led in shots, clears, ground balls, and draw controls.
The Hawks opened the contest, with Mia Pantano (Reading, Mass.) striking in the opening minute of action, with Terino scoring just over 30 seconds later. Kelley also added a goal in the opening two minutes of action giving the Hawks a 3-0 lead. Roger Williams closed out the first quarter with a commanding 11-0 lead.
Roger Williams expanded their lead out to 13 at the half, leading 13-1 after conceding a goal to Kaitlyn Mini with 9:44 remaining in the opening half. Roger Williams tacked on another 12 goals in the second half, while holding the Fighting Scots to one to close out the game.
Roger Williams (5-7, 4-0 CCC) will travel to face Western New England on Wednesday, Apr. 10 at 4:00 pm before facing Endicott on Saturday, Apr. 13 in Beverly.
