WALTHAM, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's volleyball team dropped their matchup against Springfield, 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-20), in non-conference action at the Red Auerbach Arena at Brandeis for the Brandeis Invitational.
The Pride led with 49 kills in the match while holding the Hawks to 26 on the day. Springfield also edged out the Hawks 7-6 in aces, while Roger Williams had three blocks to the Pride's one. Springfield also doubled up the Hawks in assists and digs.
For the Pride, Riley Donahue had 17 kills, with Maeve Voltz and Jodi Saelua each recording eight. Tori Colosimo had 38 assists in the match, while Kristen DeLorenzo had 13 digs.
Roger Williams recorded eight kills from
Brianna Picchietti (Batavia, Ill.) and
Kaylee Jackson (Naugatuck, Conn.) added seven kills.
Peyton Felix (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) and
Angela West (Riverview, Fla.) had two blocks each, while
Emma Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) had 11 assists, with
Marianna Hernandez (Norwalk, Conn.) had eight digs.
The Hawks opened up the match with a 13-9 lead, but the Pride responded by scoring three straight points. With the score 15-13 in favor of the Hawks but Springfield again went on a run scoring nine of the next 10 points, taking a 22-16 lead on their way to clinching the set.
In the second set, the Hawks again had a 12-10 lead, before the Pride rattled off five straight points to take a 15-12 lead. With Springfield leading 20-15, the Hawks pulled within three after kills by Jackson and
Lily Winsten (Rockledge, Fla.). Springfield would then hold on to take a six point win in the set.
In the third set, the Pride took control with a 19-13 lead, but Roger Williams added five straight point to pull within one. With the score 21-20 in favor of Springfield, the Pride rattled off four straight points to take the final frame.
Roger Williams (5-3, 0-0 CNE) will look to rebound when they face Westfield State and Bowdoin on Saturday, Sept. 14 with their first match beginning at 11:00 am. The Hawks will then host Salve Regina on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 6:00 pm.
