BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University men's tennis team fell 5-2 to the Clark University Cougars on Saturday afternoon on the RWU Tennis Courts.
The Cougars opened up with a sweep in doubles play, earning the lone point. After a 6-1 victory by Edward Shepherd-Johnson and Aris Kirkorian at No. 1 doubles, Ziad Tabbara and Drew Morris slipped past
Camden Poitras and
Konnor Collins (Bocken Arrow, Okla.) at the No. 2 doubles spot to take the doubles point, 6-3.
Iker Rodriguez Alocer (Nuacalpan de Juarez, Mexico) and
Tucker Taylor competed in a tough No. 3 doubles match falling 7-5.
In singles play, the Hawks leveled the match after
Bronson DeSisto (Las Vegas, Nev.) earned a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles before Drew Morris retook the lead for Clark with a three set, 6-3, 3-6, 11-9 victory at No. 3 singles.
Ryan Carroll (Holden, Mass.) leveled the match again with a No. 2 singles win over Kirkorian, 6-4, 5-7, 10-5.
The final three matches went in favor of Clark, as the Cougars combined to win No. 5 singles 6-2, 6-0, No. 4 singles 6-4, 7-5 (7-5) and No. 6 singles 6-3, 6-4.
Roger Williams (0-1, 0-0 CNE) will continue their fall schedule on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 4:00 pm against Wheaton (Mass.). The Hawks will then close out their fall with a Wednesday, Oct. 2 match hosting Salve Regina.
