Men’s Tennis: Hawks Earn First Win of Campaign, Defeat Wheaton in Wednesday Afternoon Tilt

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University men's tennis team defeated the Lyons of Wheaton College (Mass.) on Wednesday afternoon at the RWU Tennis Courts, in a non-conference match, 5-2.
 
To open the match, the Hawks earned the first win in doubles play with a 6-1 win by Bronson DeSisto (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Ryan Carroll (Holden, Mass.) at No. 1 doubles over Jake Murray and Pablo Munoz. The Hawks clinched the doubles point when the No. 3 doubles pairing of Tucker Taylor and Iker Rodriguez Alcocer (Nuacalpan de Juarez, Mexico) earned a 6-3 win over their opponents. Camden Poitras and Will Hurlbut (Marion, Mass.) completed the doubles sweep with a 6-3 win over Jaime Galligo and Daniel Bor.
 
In singles action, Carroll earned a 6-4, 6-1 win over Paul Berteaux at No. 2 singles, Taylor then earned a 7-5, 6-1 win over Pablo Munoz at No. 4 singles play, taking a 3-0 lead in the match. Wheaton responded with a win by Calvin Van Dyke at No. 5 singles with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Hurlbut. The Hawks finally clinched the match with a win at No. 3 singles by Poitras in a tightly fought victory over Jake Murray, 6-0, 3-6, 7-6.
 
Konnor Collins (Broken Arrow, Okla.) had a 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles, before Jaime Galligo added the second Wheaton point with a win by retirement.
 
Roger Williams (1-1, 0-0 CNE) will host Salve Regina on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 3:00 pm to round out their fall season.
