SPRINGFIELD, MASS. - The Roger Williams University women's soccer team took on Western New England in their first CNE matchup of the 2024 season on Saturday afternoon, where they drew the Golden Bears, 0-0.
Offensively, the Hawks had only two shots within the match-up by senior captain
Sarah Baptista (Smithfield, R.I.) and sophomore
Casey Donnelly (Norwalk, Conn.). Baptista's shot was the only shot placed on goal for the Hawks throughout the matchup. On the other hand, the Golden Bears had six shots throughout the game, half of which were placed on goal. The Hawks had two corner-kick opportunities compared to the Golden Bears who had three.
Defensively, the Hawks'
Coco Marrelli (Fairfield, Conn.) faced six shots throughout the matchup, all of which stayed out of the net, giving her the Hawk's first clean sheet in conference play for the 2024 season and Marrelli's second clean sheet in a row, and her fifth for the season.
The Roger Williams (5-2-1, 0-0-1 CNE) will be back at home on Wednesday where they will host Bridgewater State University for a 4:00 pm kick-off on Bayside Field before the Hawks are on the road again for another Saturday conference matchup against Hartford at 12:00 pm on Al-Marzook Field in West Hartford, Conn.
