Women’s Volleyball: Hawks Rebound to Close Saturday with Win Over Rams

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's volleyball defeated Framingham State on Saturday, 3-0 (27-25, 25-13, 25-18), in the Campus Rec Center Gymnasium at Roger Williams University.
 
The Hawks hit .250 as a team, while holding Framingham State to a .020 hitting percentage. Roger Williams also had 41 kills in the match, while leading in blocks and digs. The Hawks also had 38 assists on the match, leading the Rams by 16.
 
Kaydence Fish (Bedford, N.H.) had three service aces, with eight kills in the match, hitting a team-high .538 on 13 attempts. Fish set career bests in those three marks, while also picking up a pair of digs and a block assist on the defensive end. Taylor Joyner (Ashburn, Va.) and Angela West (Riverview, Fla.) each had 10 kills with Ava Mattiucci (North Kingstown, R.I.) recording 31 assists, while Emma Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) chipped in seven. Marianna Hernandez (Norwalk, Conn.) had 19 digs in the match.
 
Sabrina Stadelman and Hope Verhoeven each had eight kills in the match, while Stella Bailey led the team with two aces, and 22 assists. Mackenzie Heaney and Jamie Moniz each had two aces in the match, while Emma Dobbins and Sabrinia Stadelman also chipped in 3 blocks each. Moniz led the team iwht nine digs, while Anneli DiVirgilio.
 
The Hawks led 24-19 in the first quarter, when Framingham State rattled off a string of six straight points to take a 25-24 lead. The Hawks responded with a pair of kills by Joyner and a kill by Fish, to finish off the set, with a 27-25 win.
 
Roger Willaism dominated the second set, after being tied 2-2 in the set, the Hawks jumped ahead on a 10-1 run, taking a commanding 12-3 lead. After a kill by Natalie Reynolds, the Hawks rattled off another five, taking a 13-point advantage, on their way to closing the set out.
 
In the decisive set, the Hawks and Rams battled to a 15-15 draw but the Hawks used another big run, 8-1, to take a 23-17 advantage. The Rams pulled within five but the Hawks finished the match off with a kill by Fish.
 
Roger Williams (7-7, 0-0 CNE) will host their first match of Conference of New England (CNE) play when they host Curry on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 6:00 pm.  The Hawks will then continue CNE action at Endicott on Saturday, Sept. 28, and host Suffolk on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
