BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's soccer team was overcome by Wheaton College (Mass.) on Monday evening, 1-2.
The Hawks faced a tough matchup against the Lyons. At the start of the first half,
Raffaella Brunetti (North Providence, R.I.) had the first shot of the game at just over a minute in. The two teams experienced many changes in possession within the first half until the Lyons were able to hold on to the ball and drive up field.
Just before the 40th minute, the Lyons' Kate Wickenheisser took a shot outside the six-yard box which pinged off the crossbar and right to Reilly Hickey's feet for the top-of-the-net shot and the first goal of the match. Five minutes later and just before the end of the half, the Lyons found the back of the net again, this time by Gina Trovato, bringing the score to 0-2 to the Lyons.
In the second half the Hawks came out with an attacking mentality having four shots but unable to find the frame or the back of the net. At the 58th minute,
Mya D'Antonio (Marshfield, Mass.) won a foul in the Lyon's box which resulted in a penalty kick for the Hawks. D'Antonio put the goal away easily and put the Hawks on the scoreboard at 1-2.
