Women's Basketball: Richardson Pulls Down Career-High Rebounds, Coppola Tallies 23 in CNE Victory Over Endicott

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team defeated Conference of New England foe Endicott, 74-61, on Wednesday evening in the Campus Rec Center Gymnasium.
 
The Hawks shot 45.9 percent from the floor, while Endicott knocked down 46.6 percent of their shots. Roger Williams also added five three pointers to Endicott's two, while winning the rebounding battle, 34-31.
 
Individually, Endicott was led by Tenley Wallin, who tallied 16 points in the matchup, and was followed by Emma Shinney. Shinney also led the way with six assists while pulling down five rebounds. Alyssa Garabedian had four points, with a team high six boards.
 
For the Hawks, Sophia Coppola tallied 23 points, with six rebounds, a block, and two steals. Elizabeth Dufrane also scored in double figures for the Hawks, dishing out six assists with four steals in the contest. Chloe Richardson pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds in the Hawks win. Lilli Clark chipped in nine points, with Meg Qualey adding six points.
 
In the opening period, the Hawks jumped out to a 5-2 lead with a three by Dufrane taking the lead, 2:28 into the contest. The Gulls battled back to take the lead, but RWU tallied six straight points, taking an 11-6 edge. Endicott pulled back within two with 1:33 remaining, but Roger Williams saw a jumper by Sakoya Sweeney and a three by Dufrane fall, before a free throw ended the quarter with a 20-12 advantage in favor of the Hawks.
 
In the second frame, RWU held an early nine-point lead, before the Gulls climbed back into the contest with Tenley Wallin, knocking down a pullup. With the Hawks leading 29-22 with 5:42 remaining in the opening half, the Gulls saw Fleming finish a layup, sparking an 8-0 Endicott run, giving the Gulls a one-point lead with 2:09 remaining. Coppola then ended the half with a jumper to regain the lead for RWU as they went into the break.
 
In the opening quarter, the Hawks outscored Endicott, 20-12, but the Gulls responded winning the second frame, 18-11.
 
After a three pointer by Coppola fell to open the second half, Endicott responded with a bucket by Wallin. Roger Williams then pulled out to a 38-32 lead, but the Gulls again managed to spark a 7-2 run over a 3:02 span to pull within one. The Hawks ended the quarter, after using a run of their own, holding a 51-44.
 
With 6:52 on the clock in the fourth quarter, the Hawks extended their lead to 10, putting the game out of reach for the Gulls.
 
Roger Williams (9-5, 6-1 CNE) will take on Gordon, Saturday, Jan. 18 at 1:00 pm in Wenham, Mass. before facing off in the battle of the Hawks, when they take on Hartford on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 5:30 pm. The Hawks will then host Nichols on Saturday, Jan. 25 in the Campus Rec Center Gymnasium at 1:00 pm.
