BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball came away with an Alumni Day victory over Conference of New England (CNE) foe Nichols, 88-49, in the RWU Campus Rec Center Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
Elizabeth Dufrane came away from the contest with 14 points and four assists in the contest,s both led the team.
Lilli Clark tallied 11 points with a team-high 12 rebounds in the matchup, while also contributing two steals on the defense end. Dufrane also tallied three blocked shots.
Sophia Coppola had 11 points shooting an efficient 5-for-8 from the floor, with
Meg Qualey tallying 13 in the matchup.
Chloe Richardson also scored in doubles figures with 10 in the contest.
For the Bison, Abrianna Vazquez tallied a game-high 15 points on the day, with six shots falling. Alyvia Smith chipped in eight points, while Adriana Romano was responsible for seven.
RWU out rebounded the Bison 59-30 in the contest, while also earning 15 assists to Nichols five. The Hawks collectively shot 49.2 percent from the floor while holding Nichols to 28.8. The Hawks also earned 41 free throw opportunities, converting 27 in the matchup, while holding Nichols to eight attempts.
With the Bison leading 6-5, Dufrane knocked down a pair of free throws to take their first lead of the game. With the Bison leading, 11-9, Dufrane finished a layup, and earned a shot at the line sparking a 19-0 run. Roger Williams ended the quarter with a 30-15 lead.
In the second frame, the Bison opened up scoring three straight points, after giving up an opening layup to
Maia Riccio but the Hawks went on to outscore the visiting team 19-7 over the final 7:26 of the half, heading into the break holding a 51-27 lead.
In the second half, the Hawks earned a two-point edge in the third before outscoring the Bison, 19-6 in the final frame to secure the win.
Roger Williams (10-6, 7-2 CNE) will return to conference action on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 5:00 pm when they take on Wentworth in Boston. The Hawks will then make a return trip to the city on Saturday, Fab. 1 at Suffolk, before hosting Western New England.
