PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Wrestling team rebounded in their second match of the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Dual Championships, defeating No. 16 seed Bridgewater State, 26-20.
The Hawks opened the match with a 4-2 win by decision by
Christopher Tringali and earned another four points as
Shaun McLaughlin defeated his opponent at 133 pounds by major decision, 13-2. Trailing 7-0, Bridgewater State picked up a win as Malcolm Chrispin won by tech fall over
Trey Kaupp, 15-0. The Hawks rebounded at 149 pounds, with
Nick Fatone earning a 15-2 major decision win over James Calabrese, before
Matt Lucas earned five more points with a 19-4 win over Jonathan Clarke, putting the Hawks up 16-5 at the halfway point in the match.
Jack Forte picked up five points at 165 pounds, as he won via tech fall, with a 19-4 win over Nathan Quinones. The Bears picked up another three points at 174 pounds, as Michael Hopkins earned a 7-3 decision victory, but
Michael Forte earned another five points at 184 pounds to secure the match.
Roger Williams (12-5, 5-4 NEWA) will be back in action this afternoon against the winner of the Norwich and Rhode Island College match.
