PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Wrestling team finished Sunday's New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Dual Championships, defeating Trinity 30-14, finishing 11
th overall.
At 125 pounds, Trinity picked up an early three points, as Alexander Schaeublin picked up a 4-2 victory. Matthew Carrozza then earned another three points for Trinity, with a tiebreak victory over
Shaun McLaughlin at 133 pounds, before Daniel Echeverria added five points with a tech fall victory 16-0.
Roger Williams earned their first six points of the win with a win by
Jon Fabrizio via pin, before
Matt Lucas added another four points with a 10-2 victory by major decision. John Lagana earned three points for the Bantams before
Jayden Curley opened up a string of four straight matches with a pin in 2:34 over Lucas Meeker.
Michael Forte picked up four points with an 11-1 major decision victory before
Michael Toppan did the same, winning his match 17-5.
Jayden Toppan closed out the match with a pin at 2:36 in the match.
Roger Williams (13-6, 6-5 NEWA) will return to action on Friday, Jan. 31 at 6:00 pm before hosting Plymouth State, Maine Maritime, and Bridgewater State on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 11:00 am in the Campus Rec Center.
