PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer struck four times within the opening 45 minutes of action on Wednesday afternoon at Arold Field on the campus of Plymouth State, as the Hawks downed the Panthers, 6-1.
The Hawks had 31 total shots in the contest, with 15 landing on target, while holding Plymouth State to five total shots, with the lone shot on goal landing inside the net. The Hawks also won the corner kick battle, taking 12 to Plymouth State's two. The Hawks were called for 11 fouls in the game, while Plymouth State only committed six.
Elizabeth Yucius (Duxbury, Mass.) led the Hawks with six points off three goals, while Mya D'Antonio (Marshfield, Mass.) had five points with a pair of goals and an assist. Julia Robbins (Johnston, R.I.) also saw a multi-point game, earning a goal and assist, with Camryn Dickinson (Quaker Hill, Conn.) landing on the scoresheet with a helper. Yucius led the squad with six shots, four of which were on goal, with D'Antonio an Robbins each taking five in the contest, with D'Antonio landing four on target.
For Plymouth State, Clara Wilson scored the lone goal while Katherine Gough picked up the assist. Piper Sullivan added two shots, but Wilson's one was the lone shot on target for Plymouth State.
The Hawks struck in the opening 10 minutes, with Dickinson sending a pass over to Robbins that she finished in the lower left corner of the goal, 8:02 into the contest. A few minutes later, Yucius tallied another goal putting RWU up 2-0, sending the ball into the same corner.
The Hawks then tallied a pair of goals back-to-back just 1:28 apart, with D'Antonio going into the lower left third again, while Yucius sent her shot into the lower right side of the net, taking a 4-0 lead into the break.
The Hawks added Yucius' third goal and seventh of the season and was followed by D'Antonio's seventh of the year shortly after, as they took a commanding 6-0 lead. Wilson tallied the lone Panther goal with 10:29 remaining in regulation, firing a shot past Lizzy Thompson (Holland, Mass.), who came in for relief.
Coco Marrelli (Fairfield, Conn.) picked up the win in net for RWU moving to 6-1-3 on the season, while Christa, Giansircacusa took the loss, falling to 4-6 on the year.
Plymouth State (4-6, 0-3 LEC) will look to rebound at Eastern Connecticut State on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 1:00 pm, ahead of a non-conference match at Salem State on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 7:00 pm.
Roger Williams (6-1-3, 2-0-1 CNE) will take on Conference of New England (CNE) foe Western New England on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 12:00 pm. The Hawks will then host Worcester State on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 4:00 pm, before rounding out the week hosting Suffolk on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 3:00 pm for Senior Day.
