SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team defeated Western New England (WNE), 1-0, on Saturday afternoon in a Conference of New England (CNE) matchup.

The Hawks and Golden Bears were evenly matched, 12-12, for total shots, with Roger Williams outshooting WNE 7-6 on goal. RWU held the advantage on corner kicks with three on the day, while WNE had two. The contest was physical, as the Hawks racked up 18 fouls to the Golden Bears 12.

The Hawks jumped to an early lead when Mya D'Antonio (Marshfield, Mass.) scored within the third minute, assisted by Meghan Goutink (Hauppauge, N.Y.). The Golden Bears outshot the Hawks 8-6, with both teams going 3-3 on net before halftime.

Despite numerous chances, the Golden Bears could not come back, as Hawks keeper Coco Marrelli (Fairfield, Conn.) was solid and collected six total saves in the shutout. Golden Bears keeper Ainsley Napolitano was just as strong, also collecting six total saves. D'Antonio lead the Hawks with five shots on the day.

Roger Williams (7-1-3, 3-0-1 CNE) return home to face Worcester State on Wednesday, Oct. 8 before celebrating Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 11 against Suffolk at 3pm. WNE (4-4-3, 2-2 CNE) hosts Curry on Wednesday, Oct. 8 before traveling to Gordon on Saturday, Oct. 11.
