Women’s Soccer: Hawks Down Suffolk, 1-0, on Senior Day

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team defeated Suffolk, 1-0, on the Hawks' Senior Day on Saturday afternoon on Bayside Field.

Roger Williams outshot Suffolk 14-7 on the day, as the teams each had 5 shots on goal. The Hawks led the advantage on corner kicks, 8-2. It was a physical game, with Suffolk racking up 19 fouls and Roger Williams tallying nine. Roger Williams was issued two yellow cards, while Suffolk was issued two yellows and one red card on Daniela Petronio.

The Hawks started the first half strong, tallying two shots in the first 12 minutes of play. Camryn Dickinson (Quaker Hill, Conn.) scored the only goal of the match, on a free kick that found the top right corner of the net in the 14th minute. Despite multiple opportunities the rest of the half, the Hawks would not extend their lead and head into halftime up 1-0.

The Rams would put Hawks' keeper Coco Marrelli (Fairfield, Conn.) to work as she made four saves in the first 20 minutes of the second half. Despite firing off six shots in the second half, the Hawks would not be able to find the back of the net. Desperate to tie it up, the Rams had a corner kick in the last minute, but could not convert.

Hawks' keeper Marrelli was solid in goal, making five saves on the day and securing the shut out. Rams' keeper Jaiden Wilds tallied four saves in the tilt.

Before the game, the Hawks recognized their six seniors — Bailey Bourque, Julia Robbins, Sarah Newman, Sophie Scerbin, Eryn Parlin, and Coco Marrelli — for their outstanding contributions to the program!
