BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team needed a late goal in the 80th minute of action to level the match, as the Hawks drew their Conference of New England (CNE) match against Gordon on Wednesday evening at Bayside Field,1-1.
The Hawks had 23 shots in the match compiling 12 shots on goal, the Hawks defense was held to only six shots including three on target. RWU also earned eight corner kick opportunities to the Scots six. The Hawks also drew 11 fouls while also committing eight.
Mya D'Antonio (Marshfield, Mass.) and Beth Yucius (Duxbury, Mass.) each put three shots on target in the contest, while Meghan Goutink (Hauppauge, N.Y.) earned two shots in the game, placing both on frame. For Gordon, Ava Forbes-Smith had on shot on target and dished out the assist, while Lula Wamberg tallied the goal.
In the 45th minute of action, the Scots had a corner kick, as the Forbes-Smith sent a ball into the box, that Wamberg headed into the back of the net, with 44 seconds remaining in the half.
Roger Williams responded in the second half in a similar fashion from the same corner. The Hawks saw Camryn Dickinson (Quaker Hill, Conn.) send an all across to the post to the left of Ivy Daniel, who made 11 total saves in the game, the ball then connected with the head of Sinead Deegan (Bethel, Conn.) who sent it into the lower right corner of the net.
Coco Marrelli (Fairfield, Conn.) picked up the win for the Hawks moving her record n the season to 9-2-5, making a pair of saves in the match.
Gordon (4-8-4, 2-3-3 CNE) will host Endicott on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 12:00 pm, ahead of traveling to UNE on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 4:00 pm to round out the regular season.
Roger Williams (9-2-5, 4-1-3 CNE) will take on Nichols on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 3:00 pm in Dudley, Mass. ahead of a Tuesday Oct. 28 match against Wentworth at 7:00 pm to round out the season.
