Women’s Soccer: Hawks Control Play on Road Against Nichols

DUDLEY, Mass. The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team defeated Nichols on Saturday afternoon on the Nichols Soccer Field, 7-0, in a Conference of New England (CNE) match.

The Hawks had 41 total attempts while holding the Bison to eight shots total in the contest, putting 23 on target to Nichols' four. The Hawks also controlled corner kicks, winning the battle 8-2, while committing a pair more fouls than the Bison, 6-4.

Isabella Dupret made 11 saves on the 16 shots faced, while Hannah Deschene picked up the loss, allowing two goals with five saves for Nichols. Coco Marrelli (Fairfield, Conn.) tallied four saves in the match, keeping the clean sheet.

The Hawks' scoring started early, with Julia Robbins (Johnston, R.I.) scoring off a helper by Mya D'Antonio (Marshfield, Mass.). The Hawks then struck 2:45 later with Elizabeth Yucius (Duxbury, Mass.) sending a ball to Meghan Goutink (Hauppauge, N.Y.), that Goutink then buried for her first of the game.

In the 25th minute of action, Goutink was on the receiving end of a ball from D'Antonio, that Camryn Dickinson (Quaker Hill, Conn.) sent over, taking a 3-0 lead into the halftime break.

11:06 into the half, Robbins struck again with a goal, while Yucius, after assisting on Robbins' goal, led to a goal of her own from Robbins 1:28 later. Robbins then finished a goal unassisted in the 66th minute, followed by a goal in the 90th by Kaitlyn Alagno (Oxford, Conn.) who tallied her first of the season off a pass from Chloe Watson (Bethlehem, Pa.).

Robbins led the way with seven points, while Goutink and Yucius tallied four points each in the match. D'Antonio had two points in the match, while Dickinson tallied one.

Roger Williams (10-2-5, 5-1-3 CNE) will host Wentworth on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 7:00 pm before opening CNE Tournament play on Saturday, Nov. 1, pending the bracket.
