Women’s Volleyball: Jackson Records 1,000 Career Dig in Win Over Rivier

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team took the first two sets of the match, before dropping the third, on their way to a 3-1 (25-19, 25-18, 23-25, 25-23) on Wednesday evening in the Campus Rec Center Gymnasium.

The Hawks had 56 kills in the match, while holding Rivier to 28 in the match, RWU had 11 service aces, while losing the battle at the net, with the Raiders tallying four to the Hawks three. The Hawks also had 69 total digs in the match to Rivier's 56.

On the offensive end the Hawks had three players finish with double-digit kills in the match, while two members of the squad hit above .350. Brianna Picchietti (Batavia, Ill.) led the team with 18 total kills in the match with Angela West (Riverview, Fla.) recording 13, Picchietti hit .368, while West tallied an efficient .458 on 13-of-24 attempts with two errors. Emma Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) had 51 assists in the match while breaking her career high from Saturday's match by one. Kaylee Jackson (Naugatuck, Conn.) recorded 11 kills in the match, while registering 12 digs surpassing the 1,000-career dig plateau, with Marianna Hernandez (Norwalk, Conn.) finishing with 25 digs in the match to lead the team.

In the opening set, the Hawks were able to come out with the victory, after trailing 15-11. The Hawks were able to battle back to even the match at 15 all before West's kill put the Hawks ahead for good in the frame.

The two teams battled to a 13-13 draw in the second set, after a kill by Picchietti leveled the match. The kill sparked a 6-0 run for the Hawks who took an 18-13 lead. The Raiders pulled within two after a service ace by Emma Zeblisky put them trailing 20-18, but the Hawks were able to finish out the set with four straight points.

In the third set, the Hawks battled to a 20-20 draw, before the Hawks jumped out to a 23-21 lead after a kill by Picchietti. Rivier then responded scoring three straight points to take the lead as Reagan Pepin earned a kill. After a timeout by the Hawks, Lily Seibel set one down to secure the third set for the Raiders.

In the fourth set, the Hawks were able to close out the match, jumping out to a three point lead after being knotted up at 17-17. The Hawks then saw the Raiders crawl within one, but a kill by Kaydence Fish (Bedford, N.H.) put the Hawks up 21-19. Rivier then responded with three straight points, taking a 22-21 lead, but the Hawks answered by scoring four out of the next five points to end the match.

Rivier (13-12, 7-2 GNAC) will return to competition on Saturday, Oct. 25 for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match at Saint Joseph (Conn.). The Raiders will then face Emmanuel on Tuesday, Oct. 30, before hosting New England College on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 11:00 am.

Roger Williams (11-9, 6-0 CNE) will return to conference play on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 1:00 pm in the Campus Rec Center against Wentworth. The Hawks will then round out their non-conference slate on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 6:00 pm against Eastern Connecticut State.
