BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's volleyball team dropped a competitive 3–1 decision to Wentworth Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon, but senior setter Emma Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) reached a major career milestone — recording her 1,000th career assist in the match.
The Hawks (11–10, 6–1 CNE) fought through four sets before falling to the Leopards (17–4, 6–1 CNE) by scores of 14–25, 25–17, 19–25, 18–25.
Bosco's 33 assists on the day lifted her past the 1,000 mark. She also added nine digs and a pair of service aces, orchestrating the offense with consistency and energy throughout the match. Kaylee Jackson (Naugatuck, Conn.) paced the attack with 12 kills, hitting .226 and collecting 12 digs for a double-double. Angela West (Riverview, Fla.) followed with 10 kills on a .364 hitting percentage, while Brianna Picchietti (Batavia, Ill.) contributed nine kills and two block assists.
On defense, Marianna Hernandez (Norwalk, Conn.) led with 12 digs, while the Hawks combined for 10 block assists and 58 total digs, keeping rallies alive against a strong Wentworth attack.
The Hawks got off to a slow start, struggling to find rhythm against Wentworth's tough serve and block. The Leopards opened on a 10–3 run and maintained control throughout, capitalizing on RWU errors to take the opener convincingly.
Roger Williams regrouped with renewed energy, feeding off the home crowd as Bosco distributed the ball evenly across the front line. Jackson and West combined for nine kills in the frame, while strong serving from Kaydence Fish (Bedford, N.H.) and Samantha Devino (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) helped the Hawks even the match at one set apiece.
The third set featured long rallies and several lead changes early, but Wentworth's front-row attack proved decisive in the closing points. Picchietti and West each landed key kills to keep RWU close before the Leopards pulled away late.
The Hawks fought hard to extend the match, trading points deep into the fourth set. However, a late 6–1 run by the Leopards sealed the win despite strong defensive efforts from Hernandez and Felix in the back row.
The Hawks will look to bounce back on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 6:00 pm, when they host Eastern Connecticut State.
