BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team defeated Conference of New England (CNE) foe Johnson & Wales (JWU) 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-19) on Wednesday evening in the Paolino Recreation Center.
RWU hit .218 for the match, while holding JWU to a .101 hitting percentage. The Hawks had 38 kills in 110 attempts, while also tallying 11 aces to the Wildcats' 10, and 54 total digs.
For the Hawks Brianna Picchietti (Batavia, Ill.) earned 10 kills with Angela West (Riverview, Fla.) and Kaylee Jackson (Naugatuck, Conn.) earning nine and seven, respectively. Kaydence Fish (Bedford, N.H.) continued her hot stretch, hitting .500 with five kills on eight attempts with one error, with two service aces, and a block assist. Emma Bosco had 31 assists, while Marianna Hernandez (Norwalk, Conn.) and Jackson led the team with 15 and 12 digs, respectively.
Nevaeh Arnold had a .400 hitting percentage, with nine kills to lead the Wildcats, while also being in on a pair of blocks and two digs with a pair of service aces. Sophia Santacroce had 17 assists with seven digs, while Sierra Nausieda had 13 digs in the match.
After a kill by Arnold, followed by an ensuing service ace gave JWU a 21-20 lead, the Hawks rattled off five straight points, taking control of the set for the win. In the second set, the Hawks led 21-20 when they took four straight points to take the win.
The Hawks were able to maintain an early lead as they cruised to the win in the third set.
JWU (11-6, 2-2 CNE) will host UNE on Saturday, Oct. 11 ahead of playing Gordon and Wentworth on the Road on Wednesday, Oct. 15 and Saturday, Oct. 18.
Roger Williams (8-8, 4-0 CNE) will travel to Nichols on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 1:00 pm ahead of a Wednesday, Oct. 15 match at UMass Dartmouth. The Hawks will then close out the Week on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 1:00 pm at Gordon.
