Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team fell to Coast Guard, 91-87, on the road in New London on Wednesday night.
The Hawks shot 41.2 percent from the field and 35.1 percent from behind the arc, while converting 75.0 percent at the free throw line. RWU scored 28 points in the paint and generated 14 points off of turnovers. Coast Guard tallied 47 rebounds to Roger Williams' 45. The Bears also held a 17-12 advantage in second-chance points, while shooting 40.5 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from behind the arc.
Despite leading for a majority of the game and heading into the second half 14 points ahead, RWU could not keep Coast Guard at bay in the final minutes. Ashton Kendall's 3-pointer with just over two minutes remaining gave Coast Guard its first lead since early in the contest, and Farrell's layup in the final minute made it a two-possession game. The Bears closed on an 11–4 run to secure the win.
Luke Farrell led the way for the Bears with 21 points going 7-13 from the field, while Kendall came off the bench to spark the comeback with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including four from deep. Colin Huang and Elijah Parent each added 15 points and logged five and three assists respectively.
Ryan Higgins (Boston, Mass.) and
Finn Miller (Stamford, Conn.) paced Roger Williams with 20 points apiece. Higgins snagged 11 rebounds and Miller grabbed 13 to secure their first respective double-doubles of the season.
Philip Sughrue (Winchester, Mass.) chipped in 14 points and five assists for the Hawks on the day.
Roger Williams (0-2) will return to action at home on Saturday, Nov. 15 against Emmanuel (Mass.) at 3:30 pm.
