BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Roger Williams University Men's Ice Hockey team fell to #5 University of New England in two program's first-ever meeting on Friday evening, 7-1, pushing the Hawks to 0-3 in CNE action at the Harold Alfond Forum.
Roger Williams had 16 total shots in the match, going 21-for-53 in faceoffs, TJ Sullivan (Melrose, Mass.) won 7-of-13 attempts at the dot. Drew Olivieri tallied a pair of goals and an assist for the Nor'easters, as they secured the win. Olivieri also went 10-for-12 in faceoffs on the game.
Harrison Chesney picked up the win for the Nor'easters allowing one goal in 56:17 of action, while Niko Charles (Sunnyvale, Calif.) picked up the loss in his first collegiate start, making 24 saves through 40 minutes of action.
The Nor'easters started early, as Cam Bergemen tallied the first, 3:12 into the opening period, the Nor'easters struck again towards the end of the first period, with Olivieri scoring his first off a helper from Bergeman.
After Ryan Hadland added a goal for UNE to make it 3-0, the Hawks got on the board less than a minute later, with Shane Adler (Wylie, Texas) scoring off a helper from Gabe Reis (Tenafly, N.J.) at the 10:44 mark in the second period. The Nor'esters tallied three more goals to round out the second before adding one in the third to seal the victory.
Roger Williams (1-3, 0-3 CNE) will travel to face Suffolk on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 4:50 pm. The Hawks will then face off against Wentworth on Friday, Nov. 21 and Saturday, Nov. 22 for a home-and-home weekend series.
