Men’s Ice Hockey: Roger Williams Drop to Rams in CNE Play

BOSTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams University dropped Conference of New England (CNE) game against Suffolk, 7-2, in Boston on Saturday night, the programs' second meeting this season.

The Hawks had 14 total shots in the match and went 26-68 in faceoffs. Cooper St. Hilaire (Lewiston, Maine) won eight out of 14 attempts at the dot. Suffolk had 48 total shots, going 42-68 on faceoffs, with Nolan Leonard going 12-18 and Bobby Lachance going 11-18 at the dot for the Rams.

Roger Williams opened the scoring just 55 seconds into the game when Nicholas Rooney (Tampa, Fla.) buried a power-play chance created by a too-many-men penalty on Suffolk. Rooney was assisted by Colin Kwak (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Daxton St. Hilaire (Lewiston, Maine). The Rams responded quickly, as Nolan Leonard found Marko Giourof in the fourth minute for a goal, before Cole Scott would find the back of the net to give the Rams a 2–1 lead. The Hawks tied it up as Cooper St. Hilaire scored in the ninth minute off a setup from Nick Palmer (Long Lake, Minn.).

That would be the last offense RWU generated, as Suffolk seized control from the opening faceoff of the second period. Just 14 seconds in, Bobby Lachance tapped in a power-play goal to put Suffolk ahead, 3-2. Giourof added his second of the night at the 16:52 mark, and Scott struck again at 19:00 to build a 5–2 cushion heading into the third period.

The Rams continued their momentum in the final frame, where Dimitri Voyatzis made it 6–2 before Scott completed his hat trick at. Austin McNicholas picked up the win for the Rams allowing only two goals and picking up 12 saves, while Jacob Jaslow (Tomkins Cove, N.Y.) picked up the loss, making 41 saves in 60 minutes.

Roger Williams (1-4, 0-4 CNE) will face off against Wentworth on Friday, Nov. 21 and Saturday, Nov. 22 for a home-and-home weekend series.
