Springfield, Mass. – The Roger Williams University wrestling team dropped a dual meet, 25-13, to undefeated Springfield College on Friday night at Blake Arena.
The loss moves the Hawks to 5-3 in dual meets this season, while the Pride improved to 4-0.
Springfield opened the dual with a pin at 184 pounds, then added back-to-back decisions at 197 and 285 to jump out to a 12-0 lead. Roger Williams got on the board at 125 pounds as Spencer Buscema (Salem, N.H.) earned a hard-fought 4-1 decision to cut into the deficit.
After Springfield extended its lead with a major decision at 133 and a pin at 141, the Hawks responded with consecutive wins in the middle weights. Matthew Castillo (Port Washington, N.Y.) picked up a 17-7 major decision at 149 pounds, followed by a 12-5 decision from Jack Forte (Westbury, N.Y.) at 157, narrowing the margin to 22-10.
Springfield secured the dual with wins at 165 and 174 pounds, but Roger Williams closed the night with a strong effort across the lineup against the nationally competitive Pride.
The Hawks return to the mat on Saturday, Dec. 13, when they host the Scott Viera Open at the Campus Recreation Center.
