BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Wrestling team took all three of their duals at a Quad Meet hosted by the Hawks. RWU defeated Maine Maritime, 56-0, Plymouth State, 46-8, and Bridgewater State, 41-4.
Against the Mariners, Roger Williams opened the match with a win by fall, as
Christopher Tringali tallied a win in 1:23, putting the Hawks up 6-0. After a forfeit at 133,
Gavin McKenna added another three points, with a 12-5 win by decision.
Jayden Curley added six points, pining his opponent in the second period, before
Michael Forte added a win by tech fall in 1:42.
Against Plymouth State, the Hawks continued their quick start, winning the opening match at 125 pounds, with Tringali pinning Cameron McMahon and
Shaun McLaughlin following with a pin f his own in 52 seconds of action, giving RWU a 12-0 lead. A tech fall by McKenna put the Hawks up 17-0, ahead of another pin for the Hawks at 149 pounds by
Nick Fatone.
Matt Lucas picked up another with a pin in 2:25, ahead of the Panther's Chase Anestis earning five points via tech fall, with a 15-0 win. Curley added five points with a tech fall victory, but Plymouth State's Tyler Miller responded with an 11-5 win by decision. A forfeit at 197 pounds, was followed with
Jayden Toppan earning a pin in 1:27 to close out the match.
The Hawks opened their dual against Bridgewater State, with Tringali picking up a 5-2 victory, ahead of McLaughlin earning another pin at 133 pounds taking a 9-0 lead after the opening two matches. McKenna completed his third win of the day, with a 12-2 win by major decision, ahead of six points for the Hawks at 149 pounds.
Lucas won via tech fall at 157 pounds, before
Gordon Murray followed suit with a 19-4 win at 165 pounds. Curley took an 8-1 win by decision at 174 pounds, before
Michael Forte pickedup a major decision victory, 17-3. Bridgewater State's Christian Curley won by Major decision.
Jayden Toppan then closed out the match with a 17-2 victory by tech fall.
Roger Williams (15-7, 7-6 NEWA) will return to competition on Friday, Feb. 7 when they host Rhode Island College for a dual. The Hawks will then travel to Johnson & Wales on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 8:00 pm for their final dual of the season.
