PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Wrestling team fell to #3/#4 Johnson & Wales, 45-9, on Thursday evening in a New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Dual in the Wildcat Center.
Roger Williams opened the match with
Matt Lucas earning a 4-1 win in extra time at 157 pounds over Vincent Faldetta, putting the Hawks up 3-0 to start the dual. Johnson and Wales retook the lead when Jack Richardson defeated his opponent by fall in 1:21. Michael Schleiem added four more points for the Wildcats, with a major decision win over
Joshua Nieroda.
A win at 184 pounds by fall put the Wildcats up 16-3, before
Spencer Fetrow earned a win by fall in 2:03. At 285 pounds, Adolfo Betancur defeated
Jayden Toppan to put the Wildcats up 22-9, but a tech fall win by Joziah Fry put the match out of reach before JWU swept the final three matches by fall.
Johnson & Wales (18-2) will next compete at the NEWA Futures Invite.
Roger Williams (16-9, 8-8 NEWA) will next take part in the NEWA Furtures Invitational at Western New England on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 10:30 AM. The Hawks will then travel to Westleyan for the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championships on Saturday, Mar. 1.
