ORLANDO, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Men's Tennis Team picked up their second win of the day on Tuesday, pushing their record to 7-1 on the season, as they defeated the Bears of Coast Guard, 6-1, at the USTA National Campus.
The Hawks' opened the match with a sweep in doubles play, with
Tucker Taylor and
Konnor Collins earning a decisive, 6-3 win over Logan Kwon and Benjamin Carlander. The No. 1 duo of
Bronson DeSisto and
Ryan Carroll also defeated their opponents by a score of 6-3, securing the doubles point ahead of the No. 2 pairing of
Camden Poitras and
Will Hurlbut taking their match, 7-5.
In singles action, Hurlbut took his match, 6-0, 6-0, before Carroll pulled the Hawks within a point of clinching the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. Taylor secured the victory for Roger Williams with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No.3 singles spot.
Iker Rodriguez Alcocer defeated Benjamin Carlander, 6-1, 6-0, before Coast Guard's No. 1 player, Ben Bonetto secured their lone win of the match with a 6-2, 6-4 win.
Johnny Baldyga then took his match after dropping the first set, 2-6, 6-4, 10-3.
Roger Williams (7-1, 0-0 CNE) will close out their Spring Break competition with a match at 12:30 pm against Ohio Northern on Wednesday, Mar. 12. The Hawks will then return north to face the University of Saint Joseph for a Conference of New England (CNE) match on Tuesday, Mar. 25.
