BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's lacrosse team secured a dominant 21-11 victory over Hartford on Wednesday at Bayside Field. The Hawks showcased their offensive firepower, claiming their first conference win of the season.
Roger Williams set the tone early in this match, outscoring Hartford 8-5 in the first quarter. They maintained momentum with a 6-3 second-quarter performance, leading the game 14-8 at halftime. Their efficiency on free-position shots played a part in their scoring, having three out of four attempts resulting in goals. Hartford, however, struggled offensively in their attempt to make a comeback in the second half, managing just three goals during that time. Roger Williams' defense tightened, causing turnovers and limiting shot quality from Hartford.
The Roger Williams Hawks outshot Hartford 49-33, with a balanced attack featuring multiple goal scorers.
Mia Pantano (Reading, Mass.) had seven goals throughout this matchup.
Allie Shamberger (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) also had four goals this game as well as two assists for the team.
Emma Terino (East Meadow, N.Y.) found the net five times herself and provided six assists within the game.
Ella Waryas (Foxboro, Mass.) put away three goals as well for Roger Williams.
Despite their 12 saves, Hartford's defense couldn't contain RWU's relentless offense, especially on draws, where RWU held a 19-16 edge. Roger William's
Zoey Cormican (Rochester, N.H.) recorded 15 saves compared to Hartford's 12 providing a solid last defense for the team.
Roger Williams (3-5, 1-0 CNE) will next be on the road at Curry College in Milton, Mass. on Saturday, March 29th where they will take on their second conference matchup of the season.
