Women's Lacrosse: Hawks Dominate on Senior Day, Down WNE 23-1

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams women's lacrosse team defeated Western New England University 23-1 at Bayside Field on Saturday afternoon. The convincing win came on Senior day for the Hawks, a day in which seven senior members of the women's lacrosse team were recognized for their contributions to the program.

The Hawks were able to jump out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, going on to secure the 23-1 win.

Leading the offensive charge for Roger Williams was Mia Pantano, who tallied a game-high seven goals and added one assist. Emma Terino was equally impressive, recording six goals and dishing out five assists for a career-high 11 points. Miranda Hayes added two goals and four assists, while Lauren Canata and Ella Waryas chipped in with two goals apiece. In total, eight different Hawks found the back of the net in the rout. Josie Poulin netted her first career goal to wrap up the scoring for the Hawks.

Defensively, Roger Williams limited Western New England to just six shots on goal across 16 total shots. Goalie Zoey Cormican recorded five saves while allowing only one goal to secure the win, improving her record to 7-6 in the process. The Golden Bears' lone goal came in the fourth quarter from Mia Celentano, on a feed from Ella Nish. Celentano led Western New England with seven shots and all 10 of the team's draw controls.

Roger Williams controlled the matchup outnumbering the opponent in shots (32-16), shots on goal (22-5), ground balls (20-14), draw controls (15-10), and turnovers (forcing 16). The Hawks were also perfect on clears, going 16-for-16.

With the win, Roger Williams improves to 7-6 overall and 5-1 in conference play. Western New England falls to 4-9 overall and 3-3 in the conference. Up next, the Hawks will take on Nichols in Dudley, Mass on Tuesday, April 15th. They will then travel back home to take on the University of New England on Saturday, April 19th.
