NEW LONDON, CONN. — The Roger Williams University Women's Track & Field team delivered several standout performances at the Silfen Invitational.
First-year
Angela West (Riverview, Fla.) earned a major win in the javelin throw with a mark of 41.57m (136-04), currently ranked No. 7 nationally in Division III. Fellow first-year
Hailey Garcia (Maspee, Mass) also notched a win in the shot put with a throw of 12.11m.
On the track,
Meghan Purcell (Colchester, Conn.) placed 6th in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.39 and 3rd in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:09.43.
Tabitha Didonato (Cherry Hill, N.J.) clocked 2:27.54 in the 800m elite division. In relay action, the Hawks relay team featuring Didonato, Purcell, West, and
Olivia O'Neill (Westwood, Mass.) earned 3rd in the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:24.00 while
Amanda Walsh (South Windsor, Conn.),
Natalie Reid (Manorville, N.Y.),
Karsyn Medieros (Bristol, R.I.), and
Mya D'Antonio (Marshfield, Mass.) placed 9th in the 4x100m relay with a time of 53.44.
In jumps,
Ellie Clayton (Bethel, Conn.) took 12th in the triple jump at 8.79m and 10th in long jump at 4.33m. First year
Alexandra Biryukov cleared 1.46m in the high jump for 3rd place.
The Hawks also showed depth in the heptathlon, led by
Ashley Beck (Ballton Spa, N.Y.), who placed top 10 in all seven events. Her highlights included a 2:41.37 in the 800m, 4.27m in the long jump, and 29.24 in the 200m.
Peyton Sullivan (Weymouth, Mass.) and
Tabby Klaus (Chicopee, Mass.) also contributed strong all-around showings in the multi.
In distance events,
Natalie Forno (Middletown, Conn.) placed 3rd in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 13:20.81, and
Bree Killion (Rochester, Mass.) ran a 21:36.96 in the 5000m.
The Hawks will now turn to prepare for their next event at the Sean Collier Invitational hosted by MIT in Cambridge, Mass. on Friday, April 18th.
