BRISTOL, R.I. (AP) — The Roger Williams University men's tennis team continued its dominant run through the Conference of New England (CNE) with a commanding 7-0 victory over Wentworth on Saturday afternoon at the RWU Tennis Courts.
The win improves the Hawks' record to 17-1 overall and 8-0 in conference play, while the Leopards fall to 5-12 and 3-5 in the CCC.
Roger Williams jumped out to an early lead by sweeping all three doubles matches. The pairing of Bronson DeSisto and Ryan Carroll led the charge with a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles. Camden Poitras and Will Hurlbut secured a 6-2 victory at No. 2, while Tucker Taylor and Iker Rodriguez Alcocer cruised to a 6-1 win at No. 3.
In singles play, the Hawks maintained their momentum, winning all six matches in straight sets. Taylor opened singles action with a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 4 spot. DeSisto followed with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 performance at No. 1, and Poitras sealed the match with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 3.
Carroll (No. 2), Rodriguez (No. 5), and Konnor Collins (No. 6) each delivered strong finishes to complete the sweep, all winning in straight sets.
Following the match, the Hawks recognized seniors Collins and Johnny Baldyga in a Senior Day ceremony.
Roger Williams (17-1, 8-0 CNE) will ride a 17-match winning streak into their regular season finale against Nichols on Wednesday, Apr. 23.
