DUDLEY, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team fell to Nichols, 6-1, in the Hawks regular season finale on Wednesday afternoon in Conference of New England play. The loss broke the Hawks 17 match winning streak.
Nichols (10-11, 9-0 CNE) swept doubles play, with the No. 3 doubles pairing of Oscar Jynyent and Leon Zeis eanrd a 7-6 (7-3) over
Tucker Taylor and
Iker Rodriguez Alcocer.
Camden Poitras and
Will Hurlbut put up a strong fight at No. 2 doubles, but were unable to overcome Kerem Subasi and Enzo Matos Balleux, falling 7-5. At No. 1 doubles, Richard Hartmann Luzio and Caio Dieckmann earned their win, over
Bronson DeSisto and
Ryan Carroll in a tightly contested 7-6 (8-6) victory.
In singles action, DeSisto picked up the first point of the match for the Hawks, dowing Hartmann Luzio in No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-4, ahead of Matos Balleux earning a 6-2, 6-2 win over
Johnny Baldyga to take a 2-1 lead.
No. 3 singles saw Zeis take a 6-4, 6-2 win over Poitras, with Dieckmann's win over Rodriguez Alcocer, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3), secured the match for the Bison, as they took a 4-1 lead. Jose Nunez added a 6-3, 6-2 win over No. 2 singles and Kerem Subasi took his match in three sets, 6-2, 6-7 (7-9), 10-6.
Roger Williams (17-2, 8-1 CNE), with the loss, was named the No. 2 seed in the CNE Tournament, which will begin on Saturday, Apr. 26. Nichols was tabbed the No. 1 seed with the win. Nichols will face the winner of No. 5 Gordon at No. 4 Endicott, while Roger Williams will face the winner of No. 6 University of Saint Joseph vs. No. 3 Colby-Sawyer on Wednesday, Apr. 30 in the CNE Semifinals.
