BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams women's lacrosse team defeated the University of New England 18-5 on Saturday afternoon in their final home regular season game. The win improves the Hawks to 9-6 overall, and 7-1 in Conference of New England play.
The Hawks were able to jump out to a 8-1 lead to open up the first frame and never looked back, controlling a 14-1 lead by halftime. It was an overall effort by the Hawks that saw nine different goalscorers as well as 11 assists as a unit. In the win, the Hawks outshot UNE 35-14, landing 24 on goal to the opponents nine. Roger Williams also controlled the draw circle with an 18-7 advantage led by
Miranda Hayes 12 draw controls. On the defensive side, the Hawks forced 21 turnovers and scooped up 30 ground balls to the opponents 20.
In goal,
Zoey Cormican secured the win, saving six shots over the course of three quarters, with
Aizza Chase playing the final quarter in relief. On the attack,
Mia Pantano,
Miranda Hayes, and
Ella Waryas each recorded hat tricks, while
Allie Shamberger led the team with six points, recording two goals and four assists.
Jamie Anthony and
Lauren Canata both contributed two goals apiece as well.
For the opponent, Morgan White led the Nor'easters with two goals, while Barrie Guertin, Chloe Ryan, and Ella Cloutier each added one. Jenna Trafford made nine saves in goal in the loss.
Following the win, Roger Williams will wrap up their regular season in Boston against Wentworth on April 23rd. Following their matchup against Wentworth, they will begin the Conference of New England playoff tournament on Saturday, April 26th.
