Women's Track & Field: Hawks Finish Conference Prep at Sean Collier Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Roger Williams University Women's Track & Field team competed at the Sean Collier Invitational, hosted by MIT at the Henry G. Steinbrenner Track on Saturday.

Hailey Garcia headlined the day in the field events, earning a third-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 12.84 meters (42' 1.5"), resetting her school record mark. 

On the track, the Hawks found success in the relays. The team of Adeline Cook, Tab Didonato, Tabby Klaus, and Katlynn Joseph placed second in the 4x400-meter relay, crossing the line in 4:30.62. In the 4x100-meter relay, the quartet of Amanda Walsh, Natalie Reid, Karsyn Medeiros, and Mya D'Antonio finished sixth overall with a time of 52.52.

Meghan Purcell impressed in the hurdles, finishing seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (1:09.37) and 11th in the 100-meter hurdles (16.30). Madison Zelin also contributed in both hurdle events, placing 12th in the 400 hurdles (1:12.29) and 15th in the 100 hurdles (17.42).

In sprint events, Olivia O'Neill led the Hawks in the 100 meters with an 18th-place finish (13.39) and also posted the top team time in the 200 meters (27.94). Talia Moine (27.96) and Angela West (28.10) followed closely in the 200 meters. In the 400 meters, senior Didonato paced the Hawks with a 14th-place finish in 1:02.59.

The middle-distance squad showed strong depth in the 1500 meters, with Adeline Cook placing 21st (5:11.37) and Natalie Forno close behind in 23rd (5:13.66). Junior Grace Baldwin also competed in both the 800 meters (2:40.15) and 1500 meters (5:21.51), showcasing her versatility.

In the jumps, Alexandra Biryukov made a strong showing in her freshman campaign, taking 10th in the triple jump with a leap of 9.60 meters (31' 6") and finishing 14th in the high jump (1.48m). Ellie Clayton and Peyton Sullivan placed 13th and 14th in the triple jump, respectively.

Maura Dennis cleared 2.83 meters (9' 3.25") in the pole vault to secure 14th place, while junior Avery Williams threw 28.49 meters (93' 6") in the hammer throw to finish 32nd.

The Hawks return to action next week as they continue their outdoor season at the CNE Championships beginning on Friday, Apr.
