BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team continued its run in Conference of New England (CNE) play, with a decisive 7-0 victory over Suffolk University on Wednesday afternoon at the RWU Tennis Courts.
The Hawks opened the match by sweeping doubles play, surrendering just a single game across all three courts. The duo of Tucker Taylor and Iker Rodriguez Alcocer got things rolling at No. 3 doubles with a 6-0 win, followed by Camden Poitras and Johnny Baldyga matching that score at No. 2. Bronson DeSisto and Ryan Carroll completed the sweep with a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles.
Roger Williams carried the momentum into singles play, not dropping a set across all six matches. Rodriguez Alcocer was the first off the court at No. 6 singles, dispatching Milind Kulkarni 6-0, 6-0. Poitras and Carroll followed suit with matching 6-0, 6-0 victories at No. 3 and No. 2 spots, respectively. Baldyga clinched the team victory with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5.
Taylor added a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 4, and DeSisto closed the day with a strong 6-2, 6-3 showing at No. 1 singles.
With the win, RWU remains undefeated in conference play, while Suffolk drops to 0-8 (0-5 CCC) on the season.
Roger Williams (14-1, 5-0 CNE) will travel to the Bass River Tennis Club for an 11:30 am match against Gordon on Saturday, Apr. 12. They will then face Nichols on Tuesday, Apr. 15 in Dudley, Mass.
