Women's Lacrosse: Hawks Concede in Hard Fought Battle Against Endicott

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team battled to the final whistle but came up short against Endicott College, falling 21-15 in a fast-paced Conference of New England (CNE) clash Wednesday night at Bayside Field.

The Hawks kept pace with the Gulls through much of the contest, pulling within three goals multiple times in the second half. Emma Terino (East Meadow, N.Y.) spearheaded the Hawks attack with four goals and three assists for a total of seven points, including two goals from free-position shots. Miranda Hayes (South Burlington, Vt.) added a hat trick of her own, while Mia Pantano (Reading, Mass.) also found the net three times.

After a 6-2 deficit at the end of the first quarter, Roger Williams rallied in the second behind a pair of goals from Allie Shamberger (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), both assisted by Terino, cutting the lead to just two. Shamberger would finish with a hat trick and an assist, continuing her strong two-way play.

Endicott's offense proved difficult to contain, led by Grace McAfee (4 goals, 1 assist) and Leah Black (4 goals, 1 assist). Bailey Sheehan and Mia Smith added three goals each, while the Gulls tallied six total assists as a team. Endicott capitalized on multiple man-up opportunities and took advantage of 22 RWU turnovers.

Roger Williams held the advantage in draw controls (23-17), with Ella Waryas (Foxboro, Mass.) and Terino leading the way in that department. Waryas added a goal and an assist as well.

In goal, the Hawks Zoey Cormican (Rochester, N.H.) stood tall despite the high-scoring affair, recording 15 saves and several key stops to keep the game within reach.

Despite trailing by as many as eight, the Hawks showed resilience down the stretch. Terino and Pantano each scored late in the fourth, and Hayes capped off her night with a goal in the final minute before Terino added one more on a free-position attempt with 12 seconds left.

Roger Williams (6-6, 4-1 CNE) returns to conference play this Saturday, April 12th at 12:00 pm to face Western New England on their Senior Day game at home on Bayside Field. The Hawks will then travel up to Dudley, Mass. to face Nichols College on Tuesday, April 15th.
