PENFIELD, N.Y. – The Roger Williams University Men's Golf team will head into the second round of the NCAA Division III Men's National Championship on Wednesday afternoon at Midvale Country Club and Cobblestone Creek Country Club tied for 23
rd, with an opportunity to make the cut.
#5 Illinois Wesleyan currently holds the lead with a finishing day one with a four stroke lead after carding a 290 (+2) as a team, while John Caroll and Carleton finish at 294 (+6)to round out the top three. Aurora finished with a 295 (+7) and Trinity (Texas), Kenyon and , Huntingdon carded 297 (+9).
Roger Williams posted a 307 (+19), finishing tied for 23rd and two strokes back of Gettysburg and Wittenburg.
The Hawks saw
Sammy Johnson post an opening round 74 (+2) on the day, maintaining par until a double bogey on 18.
Ryan Dacey came in, ending the day with a 77 (+5), hitting only one birdie, with 11 pars.
Josh Peterson and
Will Lafrance each came in with a 78 (+6) for the round, while Lafrance recorded three birdies, with Peterson closing out the day with two with an extra par to Lafrance.
Dante Hardt closed out the scorecards for the Hawks with an 82 (+10), finishing with a pair of birdies.
The Hawks are set for a 8:05 AM tee time on Wednesday, as they continue their tournament with hopes of making the third and fourth rounds.
