PENFIELD, N.Y. – The Roger Williams University Men's Golf team fell short of making the cut after the second day of competition at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf National Championships hosted by St. John Fisher at the Midvale Country Club.
The Hawks closed their tournament tied for 31
st overall and posted the second highest New England finish, behind Amherst. Roger Williams combined two day score was a 629 (+54).
On day one, Roger Williams posted a 307 (+19), finishing tied for 23rd and two strokes back of Gettysburg and Wittenburg.but fell back after a day two, (+34).
The Hawks saw
Sammy Johnson post an opening round 74 (+2) on the day, maintaining par until a double bogey on 18.
Ryan Dacey came in, ending the day with a 77 (+5), hitting only one birdie, with 11 pars.
Josh Peterson and
Will Lafrance each came in with a 78 (+6) for the round, while Lafrance recorded three birdies, with Peterson closing out the day with two with an extra par to Lafrance.
Dante Hardt closed out the scorecards for the Hawks with an 82 (+10), finishing with a pair of birdies.
On day two, the RWU finishes went in a similar fashion. Johnson carded a 78 (+6), finishing with a two-day score of 152 (+8), with three birdies on the card for his second round. Dacey and Lafrance each came in on the day with one birdie on the scorecard while finishing with a 79 (+7) for the round. Dacey's tournament finished with a two-day total of 156 (+12) and Lafrance with a 157 (+13).
Rounding out the tournament was Peterson and Hardt who finished with an 86 (+14) and 88 (+16) respectively, finishing 164 (+20) and 170 (+26) over two days.
This concludes a season in which the Hawks made their second straight NCAA Championship appearance and took home their second straight conference title.
