WALTHAM, Mass. — The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team fell in straight sets to MIT, 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-13), in day two of the Brandeis Invitational at Red Auerbach Arena.
The Hawks were outpaced offensively, posting a team hitting percentage of -.011 with 15 kills and 16 errors on 91 total attempts. Roger Williams recorded 15 assists, two service aces, six blocks, and 28 digs in the loss.
MIT (3-0) controlled the match behind a balanced attack, finishing with a .233 hitting percentage on 42 kills, 18 errors, and 103 attempts. The Engineers tallied 39 assists, six service aces, eight blocks, and 47 digs to remain unbeaten on the season.
For Roger Williams, Kaylee Jackson (Naugatuck, Conn.) led the offense with five kills, one assist, and one service ace, while Izzy Unsworth (Milford, N.H.) and Ava McGonagle (Reading, Mass.) each chipped in three kills apiece. McGonagle also added a team-high 10 assists. Marianna Hernandez (Norwalk, Conn.) and Unsworth paced the defense with eight digs each, while Angela West (Riverview, Fla.) contributed three and a half points through a combination of kills and blocks.
MIT was led by Eileen Sadati's match-high 12 kills on a .409 hitting percentage, while Jessie Trapp added nine kills and Ella Zhou chipped in eight. Setter Kayleigh May orchestrated the offense with 34 assists and three service aces.
Roger Williams (3-0, 0-0 CNE) will then compete on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 6:00 pm in Medford, Mass. at Tufts, and the Hawks will then host the RWU Invitational beginning on Friday, Sept. 5 against when they host Simmons.
