BOSTON, M.A. – The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team battled Emerson College to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon in Boston.
Roger Williams held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks, with four coming in the first half as the Hawks applied consistent offensive pressure. Emerson's three corner kicks also came in the opening half, reflecting a balanced early attack from both sides. The Lions were called for eight fouls, including six after halftime. Roger Williams committed seven fouls overall, with four coming in the second half.
The Hawks came out strong in the opening half, generating two corner kicks in the first 10 minutes of play. Mya D'Antonio (Marshfield, Mass.), Sarah Fogarty (Scituate, Mass.), and Camryn Dickinson (Quaker Hill, Conn.) each had a shot on goal denied by Emerson goalkeeper, Addie Costello. Junior Beth Yucius (Milford, Conn.) finally found the back of the net in the 30th minute, giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead into the break.
The match was physical, particularly in the second half. Emerson generated some offensive pressure with two shots, though initially off-target. Emerson broke through late in the game with a goal by Kelsey Yoshikawa in the 87th minute, tying the score 1–1.
Defensively, goalkeeper Coco Marrelli (Fairfield, Conn.) faced five total shots on goal and made four saves.
Roger Williams (3-0-2, 1-0 CNE) will return to action on Wednesday, Sep. 17, when they travel to face Wheaton College at 4:00 pm.
