BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team defeated Bridgewater State University (BSU), 1-0, tonight at Swenson Complex.
Roger Williams held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks, with five coming in the first half. BSU's three corner kicks total had two come in the second half. The Hawks outshot the Bears 19-4, with 9 total shots on goal to the Bears one. BSU was called for nine fouls, including six before halftime. RWU committed 7 fouls overall, with four in the first half and three in the second. The only yellow card was issued to Roger Williams.
In the first half, Roger Williams controlled the pace, generating three corners in the first ten minutes of play. The Hawks outshot the Bears 10-2, with five shots on net for RWU and none on net for BSU. Roger Williams put the Bears keeper Logan Levesque to work as she tallied 5 saves in the first 45 minutes.
Despite earning a penalty shot in the 52nd minute, the Bears could not convert as Hawks keeper Coco Marrelli (Fairfield, Conn.) picked up her first and only save of the day. Sarah Fogarty (Scituate, Mass.) scored the difference maker with her goal in the 63rd minute off of a corner kick from Casey Donnelly (Norwalk, Conn.). BSU could not find opportunities to respond, as the Hawks continued to control play until the end.
Roger Williams (5-1-2, 2-0 CNE) return home and to conference play with University of New England on Saturday, Sept. 27 before heading to Plymouth State to face the Panthers on Wednesday, Oct. 1. Bridgewater (3-5, 3-0 MASCAC) hosts Westfield State on Saturday, Sept. 27 before hosting Gordon on Wednesday, Oct. 1.
