BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team was able to remain unbeaten in Conference of New England (CNE) action, as the University of New England did the same, drawing 1-1 on Bayside Field Saturday afternoon.
The Hawks outshot the Nor'easters 18-8, with 10 shots landing on target to UNE's four. The Nor'easters were able to gather more corner kicks in the contest, while also committing eight fouls to the Hawks' six.
Coco Marrelli (Fairfield, Conn.) made four saves in the match, while UNE's Emily Talbot, Marah Walton Gillian McGee, and Lindsey Butler each recorded a shot on goal. RWU saw five shots on target by Mya D'Antonio (Marshfield, Mass.) while Julia Robbins (Johnston, R.I.), Beth Yucius (Duxbury, Mass.), Camryn Dickinson (Quaker Hill, Conn.), Sinead Deegan (Bethel, Conn.), and Chloe Watson (Bethlehem, Pa.) each tallied a shot on goal.
The Nor'easters struck first, tallying a goal as it was crossed into the box, and knocked into the back of the net by a RWU defender, putting UNE up 1-0 just 11:01 into the match. The Hawks answered 6:56 later, when Robbins found D'Antonio rushing towards the net, Robbins then crossed the ball, where a sliding D'Antonio finished to knot things up.
The Hawks had four shots on goal in the second half to the Nor'easters' two, but neither team was able to break the tie, as the match finished in a draw.
UNE (6-2-2, 2-0-1 CNE) will face Salve Regina on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 4:00 pm at Toppa Field in Newport. They will then take on Thomas on Saturday, Oct. 4.
Roger Williams (5-1-3, 2-0-1 CNE) will take on Plymouth State on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 3:30 pm in New Hampshire, ahead of a CNE tilt at Western New England on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 12:00 pm.
