BRISTOL, R.I. – Emma Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) tallied a career-high 56 assists and six service aces, as Brianna Picchietti (Batavia, Ill.) tallied a season-high 20 kills as the Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team earned their second straight win Saturday over UMass Boston, 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-23, 25-16).
The Hawks hit .326 as a team, while holding the Beacons to a .215 hitting percentage. The Hawks only had 15 attack errors, with 60 kills as a team. RWU also had nine service aces in the match, to go with nine blocks and 70 digs on the defensive end.
Individually, Picchietti tallied 20 kills with one error, on 42 attempts, hitting .452 with four block assists. Bosco earned 46, with 17 digs in the match and six aces. Kaylee Jackson (Naugatuck, Conn.) and Peyton Felix (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) each had double-digit kills in the match with 16 and 10, respectively. Three Hawks recorded double-digit digs, with Bosco joining, Izzy Unsworth (Milford, N.H.) with a game-high 19, and Marianna Hernandez (Norwalk, Conn.) with 11.
UMass Boston was paced offensively by Audrey Cofield, who set up the offense with 37 assists to pair with a team-high 15 digs, as well as Lauren Westlund and Paige Coulson who tallied 14 and 13 kills, respectively. Addie Blomgren and Mary Enny had five and four blocks.
Trailing 23-22 in the opening set, the Hawks used back-to-back kills by Angela West (Riverview, Fla.) and Jackson to take the lead, before a setting error on the Beacons, which awarded the Hawks the opening set. In the second frame, the Hawks charged to take a two-point lead after tallying six straight points off five kills, but UMass Boston answered back as a pair of attack errors helped to give the Beacons the win.
Knotted up 1-1 entering the third set, the Hawks trailed 20-14 late in the third, but were able to score eight straight points to take a two-point lead. The Beacons knotted things up at 22-22, but a kill by Picchietti and an error by Paige Coulson allowed the Hawks to take a 24-22 advantage, ahead of trading points with UMB to end the set.
The fourth set saw the Hawks dominate, starting to finish, taking an early lead that they would not relinquish.
UMass Boston (6-9, 0-0 LEC) will face off against New England College on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 6:00 pm in the Clark Athletic Center. They will then open Little East Conference play on Saturday, Oct. 4 at Rhode Island College.
Roger Williams (5-8, 1-0 CNE) will travel to Boston on Tuesday, Sept. 30 to take on Suffolk at 7:00 pm. Before hosting Endicott on Friday, Oct. 3 at 6:00 pm to round out the week.
