BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University (RWU) Men's Ice Hockey Team survived an offensive onslaught from the #7 Endicott College Gulls on Friday evening, as the Hawks were able to earn two points by shootout, in Conference of New England (CNE) play, 1-1 (1-1 SO).
The hero for the Hawks was goaltender
Jacob Jaslow (Tomkins Cove, N.Y.) who made 59 saves to keep the Hawks ahead for a large portion of the game, giving up his lone goal in the third period. Peter Sterling countered with 24 saves in 65 total minutes, as the Hawks had limited shot attempts.
Colin Kwak (Alpharetta, Ga.) made four blocks in the game, while
Ryan Drust (Middletown, Conn.) and
Cooper St. Hilaire (Lewiston, Maine) each added three in the contest. Roger Williams saw 10 players record at least one block in the game as the team stopped 20 ahead of Jaslow. Offensively,
TJ Sullivan (Melrose, Mass.) and
Aidan Radic (Castle Rock, Colo.) led the team with four shots each, while putting 25 shots on target as a team.
For the Gulls, Brad Zona and Therien Thiesing each had three blocks to lead the defensive effort, as Hudson Blue and Louie Kamienski tallied eight and seven shots respectively. Payton Miller had six shots total in the game.
The Hawks were the first to strike the in the game, scoring 2:20 into the contest, when
Jacob Kettwig (Chicago, Ill.) fired a shot past Sterling, with helpers going after Kwak sent a pass up the boards to
Christian Worrell (Boise, Idaho) who found Kettwig for the goal.
After a scoreless second period that saw the Gulls post 25 shots on target, Endicott finally broke through in the third period, when the Gulls broke out to find Louie Kamienski with 10:46 remaining in regulation to level the score at 1-1, forcing an overtime session.
In overtime, both squads had four shots each, pushing the game into a shootout. After both teams missed their opening four attempts, the Hawks sealed the win with
JJ Alger (Brewster, Mass.) putting one into the back of the cage, followed by a stop by Jaslow.
Roger Williams (6-11-1, 4-8-1 CNE) will travel to take on #7 Endicott on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 3:00 pm in Beverly, ahead of hosting the #8 Nor'easters of the University of New England on Friday, Jan. 30 at Driscoll Arena.
