BEVERLY, Mass. – The Roger Williams University (RWU) Men's Ice Hockey team fell to #7 Endicott on Saturday afternoon, 5-2, in Conference of New England (CNE) action, at Raymond J. Bourque Arena.
Jacob Jaslow (Tomkins Cove, N.Y.) made 40 saves on the night, allowing four goals, while the Hawks were outshot, 45-13. The Hawks blocked 16 shots with
Colin Kwak taking three shots, while
TJ Sullivan (Melrose, Mass.),
Gabe Reis (Tenafly, N.J.),
Filip Kuba (Tampa, Fla.), and
Daxton St. Hilaire (Lewiston, Maine) each recorded a pair.
JJ Alger (Brewster, Mass.) and
PJ Sweeney (Chamonix, France) led the Hawks, with Alger sparking the Hawks in the early going with three shots.
For Endicott, the seventh ranked team in the country turned to Peter Sterling who made 11 saves on 13 total attempts, as he was able to backstop the Gulls to the CNE win. In addition, the Hawks saw 13 players finish with a positive rating on the game, including Collin Kleiser who finished with two goals and a plus three rating.
It took 6:21 for the Gulls to strike in the opening period, as Kleiser finished his attempt to put the Gulls up 1-0. Just under six minutes later, Kleiser truck for the second time in the contest with a second goal, taking a 2-0 lead with 7:57 remaining in the period.
With the Hawks on the power play, just over 40 seconds later, Roger Williams saw momentum shift for a moment as they were able to strike off their first shot of the power play, with Sweeney finding Alger for the first goal of the game for Roger Williams. Endicott struck once more, before Anthony Cafarelli scored the eventual game-winning goal with 22 seconds remaining in the opening frame, taking a 3-1 advantage in the second period.
With 4:45 remaining in the second, the Hawks cut the lead down to one with
PJ Sweeney striking with even strength to trail 3-2. Endicott was able to expand the lead back out to two with a 4-2 lead as Therien Thiesing scored off of helpers from John Goldowski and James Hooley, taking a 4-2 lead into the final period.
In the final seconds of the contest, the Gulls were finally able to score on the 5-on-6 empty net opportunity to secure the win.
Roger Williams (6-12-1, 4-9-1 CNE) will host the University of New England on Friday, Feb. 6 at 5:00 pm at Driscoll Arena, ahead of traveling to Biddeford for a Saturday, Feb. 7 matchup at the Nor'easters.
