NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) awarded Roger Williams University's Sophia Coppola (Madison, Conn.) with NEWBA Weekly First Team honors for the first time this season, as announced by the league. Coppola has been previously named to the Weekly Second Team twice earlier this season.
Coppola put up 32 points, 13 rebounds, and one assist on the week. She scored 22 points against Hartford on Tuesday, Jan. 20, finishing 8-of-13 from the floor with seven rebounds, three blocks, and three steals. On Saturday, Jan. 24, hosting the Golden Bears, the Hawks saw Coppola lead the team with 10 points, six rebounds, while adding one assist and two blocks.
On the season, The Hawks' Guard has tallied 492 minutes, shooting .368 from the floor and .338 from beyond the arc. She currently leads the team with 242 points, 132 rebounds, 44 blocks, and 20 steals on the season.
Roger Williams (11-7, 7-2 CNE) will continue Conference of New England (CNE) play on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 5:30 pm at Gordon College. The Hawks will then travel to UNE on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 1:00 pm before returning home to face Endicott on Tuesday, Feb. 3 in the Campus Recreation Center.
