CANTON, Mass – The Roger Williams University Men's Ice Hockey Team fell to #8/9 Curry, dropping four goals in the opening period, as the Hawks fell 8-0 in a Conference of New England (CNE) contest, Friday Evening at the Canton Ice House.
Curry controlled play out shooting the Hawks 51-13, while the Hawks dropped to 5-9-0, 3-5-0 in CNE play.
Blake Rothstein opened the scoring just 3:25 into the first period with an even-strength goal off assists from Ryan Prewitt and Grady Friedman. Friedman followed with a power-play tally at 10:16, and Manny Cabral and Gage Dill added goals later in the period to give Curry a 4-0 advantage after 20 minutes.
Jett Otwell extended the lead with a goal at the buzzer to close the second period, making it 5-0 heading into the final frame.
Curry continued its offensive surge in the third, as Rothstein and Otwell each netted their second goals of the game, while Friedman added his second of the night. Otwell finished with two goals, Rothstein posted two goals and an assist, and Friedman recorded two goals and one assist. Prewitt led all skaters with three assists, while Nolan McDonough and Tyler Isherwood each chipped in two helpers.
Cam Smith earned the shutout in net for Curry, stopping all 13 shots he faced.
Jacob Jaslow made 43 saves for Roger Williams despite the loss.
The Colonels finished 1-for-1 on the power play, while the Hawks went 0-for-1 with the man advantage.
Curry won the face off battle 33–23 and blocked 18 shots in a complete team defensive effort.
Roger Williams will host the Colonels on Saturday, Jan. 10, at 4:00 pm at Driscoll Arena, ahead of a home-and-home series against Western New England on Friday, Jan. 16, in Springfield, and a rematch at home against the Golden Bears on Saturday, Jan. 17.
