FALMOUTH, Maine — The Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team swept the University of New England, 7-0, in a Conference of New England (CNE) matchup on Saturday afternoon.
In doubles action, Tucker Taylor (Gonzales, Texas) and Steven Mathew (Bayport, N.Y.) earned a 6-1 win over UNE's Andrew Young and Tyler Mason at the No. 3 doubles spot. RWU secured the point as Camden Poitras (Londonderry, N.H.) and Will Hurlbut (Marion, Mass.) defeated Franco Leehive and Logan Flor, 6-2, in the No. 2 doubles spot. The Nor'Easters stopped the doubles sweep as Drake Turcotte and Liam Miller earned a 6-3 win over Bronson DeSisto (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Ryan Carroll (Holden, Mass.) in the No. 1 spot.
In singles play, Poitras at No. 4 singles collected a 6-0, 6-0 win over Flor, with Om Seth (Lincoln, R.I.) following in the No. 5 spot, defeating Young, 6-0, 6-0. Hurlburt secured the win for the Hawks, defeating Finnegan Whelden 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles match.
In the No. 2 spot, Carroll defeated Miller 6-0, 6-0 before Taylor defeated UNE's Leehive 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles match. Rounding out singles play, DeSisto defeated Turcotte 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles slot.
Roger Williams (3-2, 1-0 CNE) will be off until Sunday, Mar. 8 when they take on Marymount at the start of their spring break.
