Women’s Lacrosse: Hawks Drop Season Opener at Stevens

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team opened their 2026 campaign on Saturday afternoon at #15 Stevens, falling to the Ducks, 21-6 in non-conference action.

Stevens controlled pace of play with 24 shots on goal to the Hawks nine in the game. The Ducks also were successful on 11 of 14 clear opportunities with six of the Hawks 13 attempts being successful. Stevens also earned the draw control battle with 17 to the Hawks' 12.

Stevens' saw Alina Friz and Stefanie Sellitto each tally seven points, with Friz leading with five goals and two assists, while Sellitto had four goals and three assists. Maddie Hogan also had five points with five goals in the game. Emma Guzowski also had four save in net for the Ducks.

Aizza Chase (Cohasset, Mass.) had four saves in the loss, while Lauren Canata (West Springfield, Mass.) and Allie Shamberger (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) each had three goals, with Molly Schmitz (Hamden, Conn.) and Miranda Hayes (South Burlington, Vt.) each dishing out two helpers. Jaymie Arena (Hopkinton, Mass.) and Mikayla Fey (Bethlehem, Pa.) each recorded a point off an assist.

The Ducks started early, scoring three goals 5:26 into the contest. Shamberger tallied the first goal for the Hawks with 2:04 remaining in the opening quarter, with the Ducks answering with Friz tallying a goal with 1:15 remaining ahead of Canata scoring with four seconds remaining, cutting the deficit to two after the opening 15 minutes of play.

Stevens opened the second quarter with six straight goals, including one with a player advantage, as they cruised on the way to a 17-4 halftime lead. The second half saw the Hawks' outscored 4-1 in the second half, as they fell.

Roger Williams (0-1, 0-0 CNE) will travel to Bowdoin on Sunday, Mar. 1 at 2:00 pm before hosting Skidmore on Saturday, Mar. 7 at 1:00 pm on Bayside Field.
